Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the many skills used within Physiotherapy as an integrated approach to the management of pain and inflammation, and as a means of stimulating the body’s own healing chemicals to aid recovery and enhance rehabilitation.
The Acupuncture used at David Cowan Physiotherapy follows a Western medical approach to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This is implemented by treating specific points on the body where unseen energy pathways (meridians) are stimulated with fine needles to influence energy (Qi) within the body, supporting a return to optimal health (homeostasis).
Acupuncture can be combined with other Physiotherapy treatments, such as exercise and manual therapy, to aid faster recovery.
Trigger point acupuncture may also be used to facilitate relaxation in specific muscles following trauma, as well as in longer-term, unresolved muscular pain.
